Things to do... 

Whether you are keen to just chill or are more the outdoors type there is plenty to do, cycling, walking, fishing and golfing to name a few.  Being so close to the Galloway Forest Park, famous for its Dark Skies, the beautiful starry skies will impress you!     

 "Astronomy writer Will Gater," recently seen on the "One Show"   stayed for a week at the cottage, he wrote in the visitors book :-   "Stunning dark skies from the cottage. Wonderful views of the night sky to the west and south particularly, and the proximity to the heart of the forest park is ideal for those wanting to explore the various other IDA stargazing sites."  March 

visitsouthernscotland.com, provide a pick up and drop off service if you fancy walking part of the Southern Upland Way, they are located in St John’s Town of Dalry, fishing permits can be bought in the village shop.

New Galloway is only a ten minute drive and also has two pubs, numerous excellent tea-rooms, and a nine hole golf course.

If you are serious golfer Southerness is very challenging, 1 hour drive on Solway Coast. Turnberry and Royal Troon 1 hour

Galloway Sailing and Activity Centre is a 10 minute drive
Red Kite Feeding Station at Laurieston is a 30 minutes drive – however be aware that Red Kites are always flying above the Cottage!

Castle Douglas Food town is 25 minutes with its lovely gift/ coffee shops and lots or eateries. It has a fairly large Tesco that will deliver prior to your stay if you wish.

Threave Castle is worth a visit and the kids will love the little boat trip across the water to the castle, there is also a tea-room so after the half mile walk from the car park to the castle and back you may be ready for a bowl of soup and some lovely home made carrot cake.  The coast is only a 40 minute drive if you like the beach.

Ayr and Dumfries are the closest large towns both 40 minutes drive.

Stranraer 1 hour
